The Matrix The Matrix was a religious experience for me. I saw it nine times in the theatres so far. I can't begin to explain its effect on me. I don't really even want to say much about it. As usual, all I can tell you is why you need to see it. The Matrix is the Wachowski Brothers' second film, the first was Bound. Keanu Reeves accomplished a break-through performance. A spectacle. Laurence Fishburne is delicious as the soothsayer, Morpheus. Carrie-Ann Moss is a bigger-than-life, righteous hero. I read somewhere that she ripped her ankle up an hour before a big cartwheel scene and she did it anyway, hiding her injury from the cast and crew. Hugo Weaving never ceases to amaze. One of his other roles was "Mitzi/Tic" in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Julian Arahanga doesn't have a major role but I remember him fondly for playing Nig, the number one son in Once Were Warriors. The Wackowski's are developing an ensemble cast with Joe Pantoliano who was also in Bound.

I won't tell you jack about this film. And I strongly advise that you not read a single "review" that's out there before you see it. They tend to give away at least one of the film's many secrets. The most common of which the hacks expose doesn't get divulged until about a third into the film. A secret that I blissfully got to discover on my own since I never read a "review."

You will see martial arts and special F/X like you've never seen before. Something historical was created for The Matrix. Bullet Time. You will see this film ripped off in every way imaginable in the near future, I guarantee it. A plot so disturbing that you'll swear it's real. A profound beauty and caustic ugliness that you can see with your skin.
